Vitalize seeks a part-time or full-time CFO / Controller to help oversee, manage, and report on the firm’s finances. The CFO will be broadly accountable for the administrative, financial, and risk management operations of the company. This role requires familiarity with accounting practices and software, and experience in accounting for a VC fund. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working as a full- or part-time CFO, Controller, or Director of Finance in VC or within a fund administrator.
Key Responsibilities
General
- Assist in formulating Vitalize’s future direction through providing input on the company’s financial and tax strategies and fund administration
- Oversee the financial operations of active funds (currently two) and SPVs
- Review processes and systems, looking to improve efficiency where possible
Accounting & Administration
- Create an annual budget for the funds and management company, track performance to budget on a quarterly basis, and re-forecast 1-2 times per year
- Manage fund administration relationship (currently with Carta), which includes reviewing and overseeing capital calls, distributions, management fee calculations, and waterfall calculations
- Oversee the company’s invoice payment and financial reconciliation process with the help of the Vitalize Operations Manager
- Manage expense reporting and reimbursement process
- Own the banking (Grasshopper) and tax/audit (Weaver) relationships
- Manage planning and filing of the active funds and GP tax documents
- Monitor cash balances and cash forecasts, including any fund lines of credit
- Execute wires to portfolio companies
- Support and participate in the management of the legal relationship with Cooley, including closing any new limited partners through Cooley’s software system, Vanilla
HR
- Oversee employee benefit plans, with particular emphasis on maximizing a cost-effective benefits package
- Manage payroll input and approval
